Low Calorie Shami Kebab Recipe for Weight Loss
Ingredients:
- Boneless Chicken- 250 gms
- Chana Daal- 100 gms
- Green Chillies- 3
- Garlic Cloves- 5 (around 10 gms)
- Ginger- 10 gms
- Onion- 1 medium size
- Coriander Leaves- 1 bunch
- Red Chilly Powder- 1 table spoon
- Coriander Powder- 1 table spoon
- Turmeric Powder- 1 table spoon
- Garam Masala- 1/2 table spoon
- Salt as per taste
This quantity is sufficient for around 20 kebabs. 5 small size grilled Kebabs comprises of around 160 calories with a good amount of protein in it.
First of all, for preparation, soak chana daal in water for 3-4 hours. Also, cook chicken for just about 10 mins. Wash chicken, add it to a cooker, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and cook for 10 mins on low simmer. Adding extra water to chicken for cooking is not required as when you wash it, some water is still left in it which is enough.
Note: It is important to boil chicken as we are going to grill it in a pan. It might left uncooked in this process if pre boiling is not done. In case if you are planning to deep fry the kebabs, boiling chicken is not required.
Once chicken reaches room temperature, add it to a grinder. Add 1/4 cup water also to the grinder. Make sure there are no bones, chicken is in small pieces, and at room temperature. Grind it into a fine paste with no lumps left.
Note: If you are on your weight-loss journey, take only breast pieces (without skin) as it comprises of least amount of fat and calories.
Remove water from soaked chana daal. Add daal, onion, garlic, ginger, green chillies, coriander leaves and 1/4 cup of water.
Also, add turmeric powder, coriander powder (leave some to be added to the paste), turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and salt (as per taste). We have already added salt to chicken so add appropriate quantity of salt here. I added just one tea spoon of salt to the grinder.
Mix chicken paste and chana daal masala paste. The two pastes have been grind separately as these two ingredients take different amount of time to turn into paste.
Make balls of this paste we have prepared. Brush some oil to a nonstick pan, place balls and press it slightly to flatten it.
Turn it around when it becomes golden brown after 5 mins and grill from both sides. Your low calorie shami kebabs are ready.
In case, if you are not trying to make low calorie kebabs and taste is all what matters to you. You can deep fry the kebabs. The picture below is the deep fried kebabs.
These shammi kebabs can be served with a green chutney. Just add 3-4 bunches of coriander leaves, 3-4 green chillies, tomato (if you want it to taste sour), and some salt as per taste. Add half cup of water and grind it. Your chutney is ready.
